My nana used to make this all the time, and I finally found a recipe that trumps hers!

This Frito Pie recipe transforms the classic concession stand dish into a comforting, layered casserole. It features a base of crunchy Fritos, a hearty layer of chili, and a generous blanket of melted cheddar cheese, all baked to bubbly perfection.

Ingredients:
Ingredient | Quantity |
---|---|
Fritos corn chips | 1 large bag |
canned chili (15 oz) | 2 cans |
shredded cheddar cheese | 2 cups |
diced red onions | 1/2 cup |
sliced jalapeños | 1/2 cup |
sour cream | for serving |
diced avocado | for serving (optional) |
How To Make Frito Pie:
- Step 1: Preheat and Layer: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grab a baking dish (a 9×13 inch dish works well). Spread half the Fritos chips across the bottom.
- Step 2: Chili Time: Pour your favorite canned chili (or homemade chili!) evenly over the Frito layer.
- Step 3: Cheese Blanket: Generously sprinkle half of the shredded cheddar cheese on top of the chili.
- Step 4: Frito Finish: Scatter the remaining Fritos over the cheese layer. Sprinkle the remaining shredded cheddar cheese over the top of the Fritos.
- Step 5: Bake It Melty: Bake uncovered for 15-20 minutes, until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and golden brown.
- Step 6: Cool Down and Top: Take it out of the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Serve hot and customize with toppings like diced red onions, sliced jalapeños, sour cream, and diced avocado, if using.
