Ingredients:
Ingredient | Quantity |
---|---|
Granulated sugar | 2 cups |
All-purpose flour | 1/3 cup |
Cornstarch | 4 tablespoons |
Fine salt | 1/2 teaspoon |
Whole milk | 1 3/4 cups |
Vanilla extract | 2 teaspoons |
Unsalted butter, room temperature, cut into small pieces | 1/2 cup |
Vegetable shortening, room temperature, cut into small pieces | 1/2 cup |
Instructions:
- Combine Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, all-purpose flour, cornstarch, and fine salt.
- Add Milk: Slowly whisk the whole milk into the dry ingredients until well combined.
- Strain Mixture: Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer into a medium-sized saucepan.
- Cook the Base: Place the saucepan over medium heat and whisk continuously until the mixture thickens, about 8 to 10 minutes.
- Cool the Base: Transfer the thickened mixture to a bowl. Cover the surface with plastic wrap to prevent a skin from forming. Let it cool to room temperature, about 2 hours.
- Whip the Base: Once cooled, use an electric mixer to whip the milk mixture until softened up, about 30 seconds.
- Add Butter and Shortening: Remove half of the whipped milk mixture from the bowl. Gradually add the room-temperature butter and vegetable shortening, a few pieces at a time, while continuing to whip.
- Combine and Whip: Once all the butter and shortening are incorporated, add the reserved half of the whipped milk mixture back into the bowl. Continue to whip the frosting for another 5 minutes, or until it’s light and fluffy.
- Use Immediately: Use the Miracle Frosting immediately to decorate cakes, cupcakes, or other desserts. Enjoy!
