Ingredients:

Ingredient Quantity
Granulated sugar 2 cups
All-purpose flour 1/3 cup
Cornstarch 4 tablespoons
Fine salt 1/2 teaspoon
Whole milk 1 3/4 cups
Vanilla extract 2 teaspoons
Unsalted butter, room temperature, cut into small pieces 1/2 cup
Vegetable shortening, room temperature, cut into small pieces 1/2 cup

Instructions:

  1. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, all-purpose flour, cornstarch, and fine salt.
  2. Add Milk: Slowly whisk the whole milk into the dry ingredients until well combined.
  3. Strain Mixture: Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer into a medium-sized saucepan.
  4. Cook the Base: Place the saucepan over medium heat and whisk continuously until the mixture thickens, about 8 to 10 minutes.
  5. Cool the Base: Transfer the thickened mixture to a bowl. Cover the surface with plastic wrap to prevent a skin from forming. Let it cool to room temperature, about 2 hours.
  6. Whip the Base: Once cooled, use an electric mixer to whip the milk mixture until softened up, about 30 seconds.
  7. Add Butter and Shortening: Remove half of the whipped milk mixture from the bowl. Gradually add the room-temperature butter and vegetable shortening, a few pieces at a time, while continuing to whip.
  8. Combine and Whip: Once all the butter and shortening are incorporated, add the reserved half of the whipped milk mixture back into the bowl. Continue to whip the frosting for another 5 minutes, or until it’s light and fluffy.
  9. Use Immediately: Use the Miracle Frosting immediately to decorate cakes, cupcakes, or other desserts. Enjoy!
