Homemade Crunch Bars

These Homemade Crunch Bars are a much-improved, wholesome version of the classic candy bar. By combining creamy peanut butter and maple syrup with dark chocolate, you create a “fudge” base that perfectly coats every piece of crispy rice cereal. Unlike store-bought versions, these bars are rich in healthy fats and skip the high-fructose corn syrup, all while maintaining that iconic, satisfying snap.

Ingredients:

THE CRUNCH AMOUNT
Crispy rice cereal 3 cups
THE FUDGE BASE AMOUNT
Chocolate chips 1 1/2 cups
Peanut butter (or nut/seed butter) 1 cup
Maple syrup 1/2 cup
Coconut oil (or grass-fed butter) 1/4 cup

How To Make Homemade Crunch Bars:

Step 1: Prep the Pan: Line an 8×8-inch baking dish (or any deep tray of similar size) with parchment paper. Leave a little overhang on the sides so you can easily lift the bars out once they’ve set.

Step 2: Measure the Cereal: Add the 3 cups of crispy rice cereal into a large mixing bowl. Set this aside while you prepare the liquid chocolate mixture.

Step 3: Melt and Whisk: In a microwave-safe bowl or a small saucepan over low heat, combine the chocolate chips, peanut butter, maple syrup, and coconut oil. Heat gently, stirring frequently, until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is glossy. Whisk well to ensure the maple syrup and oil are fully incorporated into the chocolate.

Step 4: Combine: Pour the warm chocolate-peanut butter mixture over the crispy rice cereal. Use a spatula to toss and fold until every single grain of cereal is dark brown and well-coated.

Step 5: Press and Chill: Transfer the mixture into your lined baking dish. Use the back of a spoon (or another piece of parchment paper) to press the mixture down firmly into an even layer. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or until the bars are completely firm to the touch.

Step 6: Slice and Serve: Lift the parchment paper to remove the block from the pan. Using a sharp knife, slice into squares or rectangular bars. Store them in the refrigerator to keep them crisp and firm!
