Texas Roadhouse Rolls Recipe

Ingredients:

For the Rolls
Ingredient Quantity
Warm water ¼ cup
Active dry yeast 1 tbsp
Butter 1 ½ tbsp
Milk 1 cup
Sugar ¼ cup
Egg 1
Salt 1 tsp
Flour 3 ½ cup
For the Honey Butter
Ingredient Quantity
Butter, room temperature ½ cup
Ground cinnamon ½ tbsp
Powdered sugar 2 tbsp
Honey 2 tbsp

Instructions:

  1. Activate Yeast: In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine the warm water and active dry yeast. Set it aside for about 5-10 minutes until the yeast has dissolved and become foamy, indicating it’s active.
  2. Heat Milk & Butter: In a separate microwave-safe bowl, mix the milk and 1 ½ tbsp butter. Microwave in 30-second intervals until the butter is melted and the milk is heated through (but not boiling, it should be warm to the touch).
  3. Combine Wet Ingredients: To the warmed milk mixture, add the sugar, salt, and egg. Whisk thoroughly to combine.
  4. Mix Dough – Initial: Pour the milk mixture into the yeast/water mixture in the stand mixer bowl. Attach the kneading hook. Stir on low speed for 1 minute, scraping the edges and bottom of the bowl as necessary to ensure everything is well incorporated.
  5. Add Flour & Knead: Gradually add the 3 ½ cups flour to the mixture. Knead the dough using the stand mixer until it is fully combined and smooth. If the dough remains overly sticky, add extra flour, 1 tablespoon at a time, until it reaches a soft, pliable consistency that pulls away from the sides of the bowl.
  6. First Rise: Form the dough into a large ball. Lightly oil a clean bowl and place the dough ball inside, rolling it around to coat all sides with oil. Cover the bowl with a thick kitchen towel and set it aside in a warm place for approximately 1 hour, or until the dough has doubled in size.
  7. Punch Down & Divide: Once risen, gently punch down the dough to release the air. Knead the dough for 1 minute. Divide the dough evenly into 12 equal pieces. A good way to start is by dividing it in half twice, then dividing those quarters into three pieces each.
  8. Form Rolls & Second Rise: Form each portion of dough into a smooth roll. Arrange the rolls in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Cover the dish with a towel and leave to rise for another 30 minutes, or until noticeably puffy.
  9. Bake Rolls: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 15-18 minutes, or until their tops are golden brown.
  10. Make Honey Butter: While the rolls are baking, prepare the honey butter. In a small bowl, combine the ½ cup room temperature butter, ½ tbsp ground cinnamon, 2 tbsp powdered sugar, and 2 tbsp honey. Mix until smooth and well combined.
  11. Serve: Remove the rolls from the oven. Serve the warm Texas Roadhouse Rolls immediately with the freshly made honey butter.
  12. Storage: Store any leftover rolls in an airtight container at room temperature to maintain freshness.
