Old Fashioned Fudge Recipe

This classic old-fashioned fudge recipe offers a rich, creamy, and chocolatey treat. The addition of nuts provides a delightful crunch, but they’re completely optional.

Ingredients:

Sugar 2 cups
Hershey’s cocoa 4 tablespoons
Salted butter (stick) 1
Carnation Evaporated Milk 5-ounce can
Vanilla extract 1 teaspoon
Nuts (optional) Chopped

Instructions:

  1. Gather ingredients: Gather all ingredients. Chop nuts if using.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: Combine sugar and cocoa in a medium saucepan. Stir until well combined.
  3. Add wet ingredients: Add butter and evaporated milk to the saucepan. Stir over medium heat until butter melts and the mixture is smooth.
  4. Cook fudge: Continue cooking over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture reaches the soft ball stage (234-240°F). This may take 10-15 minutes.
  5. Add vanilla and nuts: Remove from heat. Stir in vanilla extract and chopped nuts (if using).
  6. Pour and cool: Pour the hot fudge mixture into a greased 8×8-inch baking dish. Let cool completely at room temperature, then refrigerate until set (about 2 hours).
  7. Cut and serve: Cut fudge into squares and enjoy!
