Instructions:
- Form patties: Shape the ground beef into 3 flattened patties that are roughly the same size as your bread slices. Season both sides with onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Cook patties: Cook the patties over medium-high heat on the stove until cooked through. Remove from the pan.
- Make the secret sauce: In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, chopped bacon pieces, ketchup, sugar, and relish. Mix well.
- Prepare the skillet: Wipe the skillet used to cook the patties clean and reduce the heat to medium.
- Butter bread: Butter one side of each piece of rye bread.
- Assemble the patty melts: Place 3 slices of buttered bread, buttered side down, in the skillet. Top each with 2 slices of provolone cheese, a meat patty, and 2 slices of cheddar cheese.
- Add sauce: Spread a little bit of the secret sauce on the non-buttered side of the remaining 3 slices of bread. Place these sauce-side down on top of the patty melts in the skillet.
- Cook until melted and toasted: Flip the patty melts once the provolone cheese has melted and one side of the bread is well-toasted. Toast the other side of the bread until well-done.
- Serve: Serve the Patty Melts hot and enjoy!
