We call ’em West Virginia Burnt Ends!

This recipe delivers tender, smoky, and caramelized hot dog burnt ends. Enjoy them as a main course or a flavorful appetizer.

Ingredients:

Ingredient Quantity
Hot dogs 3 (32 oz) packages
BBQ sauce ⅔ cup
Yellow mustard ⅓ cup
Liquid smoke 2 teaspoons
Paprika 1 tablespoon
Garlic powder 2 teaspoons
Onion powder 2 teaspoons
Salt ½ teaspoon
Black pepper 1 teaspoon
Brown sugar ½ cup (divided)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat and Prep: Preheat oven to 300°F (150°C). Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Slice Hot Dogs: Cut hot dogs into thirds or quarters and place in prepared baking dish.
  3. Combine Sauce Mixture: Mix BBQ sauce, yellow mustard, and liquid smoke. Pour over hot dogs.
  4. Prepare Seasoning: Combine paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and ¼ cup brown sugar. Sprinkle over hot dogs.
  5. Bake: Bake for 1 hour, tossing halfway through.
  6. Caramelize: Sprinkle remaining ¼ cup brown sugar over hot dogs. Increase oven temperature to 400°F (200°C). Bake for 10-15 minutes or until crispy.
  7. Serve: Enjoy hot dog burnt ends!
