Caramel Apple Sheet Cake: A Fall Favorite

Ingredients:

For the Cake:

Self-Rising Flour 2 1/4 cups

Chopped Apples (peeled) 3 cups

For the Caramel Icing:

Butter 1/3 cup
Dark Brown Sugar (packed) 2/3 cup
Milk 1/3 cup
Powdered Sugar 3 cups
Vanilla Extract 1 teaspoon

Instructions:

Preparing the Cake:

  1. Preheat and Prepare (5 minutes):

    • Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C). Grease a 13×9 inch baking pan and set it aside.
  2. Mix Wet Ingredients (3 minutes):

    • In a large mixing bowl, beat the eggs.
    • Add the vegetable oil and sugar, and stir until well blended.
  3. Combine Dry Ingredients (2 minutes):

    • Gradually add the self-rising flour to the wet mixture, stirring until just incorporated.
    • Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Add Fruit and Nuts (2 minutes):

    • Fold in the chopped apples, chopped pecans, and ground cinnamon. Mix until evenly distributed throughout the batter.
  5. Bake the Cake (1 hour, 10 minutes):

    • Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour and 10 minutes, or until the cake starts to pull away from the edges of the pan and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Cool Completely (optional):

    • Allow the cake to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack before adding the icing.

Preparing the Caramel Icing:

  1. Melt Butter (2 minutes):

    • In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  2. Make the Caramel (3 minutes):

    • Stir in the dark brown sugar and milk. Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring constantly.
    • Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
  3. Mix and Spread Icing (3 minutes):

    • Gradually whisk in the powdered sugar and vanilla extract until the icing is smooth and well combined.
    • Pour the caramel icing over the cooled cake, spreading it out evenly with a spatula.
  4. Set and Serve:

    • Allow the icing to set before cutting and serving the cake.
