ALABAMA FIRECRACKERS

These seasoned crackers are a Southern snack staple. They are famous for their bold, spicy kick and savory herb coating. Because they “marinate” overnight, the flavor soaks deep into the cracker, making them incredibly addictive.

Ingredients:

INGREDIENTS AMOUNT
Saltine or Ritz-style crackers 1 box (12 oz)
Olive oil (or avocado oil) 3/4 cup
Italian seasoning 2 tablespoons
Chili flakes (adjust for heat) 3 tablespoons

How To Make Alabama Firecrackers:

Step 1: Prepare the Crackers: Place the 12 oz of crackers into a large, gallon-sized Ziploc bag. Using a bag allows you to coat the crackers thoroughly without breaking them.

Step 2: Add the Oil: Pour the 3/4 cup of olive oil over the crackers. Seal the bag and gently tumble and toss the crackers until they are all shimmering and evenly coated with the oil. This step is essential so the dry spices have something to cling to.

Step 3: Seasoning Time: Open the bag and add the 2 tablespoons of Italian seasoning and the 3 tablespoons of chili flakes. Reseal the bag and shake it again, flipping it over multiple times. You want to see the herbs and red pepper flakes distributed across every single cracker.

Step 4: Marinate Overnight: This is the most important step! Leave the sealed bag on your counter at room temperature overnight. Occasionally flip the bag over whenever you walk by to redistribute the oil and spices. This allows the crackers to absorb the flavors without getting soggy.

Step 5: Serve: The next day, your firecrackers are ready to enjoy! They are fantastic on their own or served alongside a cold beverage to help manage the heat.
