Ingredients:

Ingredient Quantity
Whole milk, room temperature 2 cups
All-purpose flour, divided 5 1/2 cups, plus extra for flouring
Granulated sugar 2 tablespoons
Instant yeast 1 (.25 oz) packet
Salt 2 teaspoons
Unsalted butter, room temperature 7 tablespoons

Instructions:

  1. Combine the whole milk, 5 cups of the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, instant yeast, and salt in a food processor or stand mixer fitted with a dough hook. Mix until a dough forms. If the dough is too wet, add the remaining 1/2 cup of flour.
  2. Slowly add the room temperature unsalted butter to the dough while mixing. Knead the dough for approximately 4 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  3. Place the dough in a large, lightly greased bowl. Cover the bowl and place it in a warm place for 60-90 minutes, or until the dough has doubled in size.
  4. Lightly flour a clean work surface. Divide the dough into two equal halves.
  5. For two loaves: Shape each half into a large ball and place each ball into a greased loaf pan. For rolls: Divide each half into 8 smaller balls for a total of 16 rolls.
  6. Cover the loaf pans or roll-filled pans and allow the dough to rise again in a warm place for another 60-90 minutes, or until doubled in size.
  7. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  8. Bake the loaves or rolls uncovered for 27-32 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.
  9. To check for doneness, remove the loaves from the pans and tap them on the bottom. They should sound hollow.
  10. Allow the bread or rolls to cool completely on a wire rack before slicing and serving.
