Ingredients:
Ingredient | Quantity |
---|---|
Whole milk, room temperature | 2 cups |
All-purpose flour, divided | 5 1/2 cups, plus extra for flouring |
Granulated sugar | 2 tablespoons |
Instant yeast | 1 (.25 oz) packet |
Salt | 2 teaspoons |
Unsalted butter, room temperature | 7 tablespoons |
Instructions:
- Combine the whole milk, 5 cups of the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, instant yeast, and salt in a food processor or stand mixer fitted with a dough hook. Mix until a dough forms. If the dough is too wet, add the remaining 1/2 cup of flour.
- Slowly add the room temperature unsalted butter to the dough while mixing. Knead the dough for approximately 4 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a large, lightly greased bowl. Cover the bowl and place it in a warm place for 60-90 minutes, or until the dough has doubled in size.
- Lightly flour a clean work surface. Divide the dough into two equal halves.
- For two loaves: Shape each half into a large ball and place each ball into a greased loaf pan. For rolls: Divide each half into 8 smaller balls for a total of 16 rolls.
- Cover the loaf pans or roll-filled pans and allow the dough to rise again in a warm place for another 60-90 minutes, or until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake the loaves or rolls uncovered for 27-32 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.
- To check for doneness, remove the loaves from the pans and tap them on the bottom. They should sound hollow.
- Allow the bread or rolls to cool completely on a wire rack before slicing and serving.
