Ingredients:

Ingredient Quantity
Lean ground beef 1 lb
Onion, chopped 2 ½ cups
Garlic powder ½ teaspoon
Ketchup ¾ cup
Tomato paste 2 teaspoons
Worcestershire sauce ½ teaspoon
Brown sugar 2 ½ teaspoons

Texas Toast or thick white bread 4 pieces
Cheddar cheese, shredded 1 ounce

How To Make Texas Toast Sloppy Joes

  1. Preheat Oven & Cook Beef: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef and chopped onion, stirring to break up the meat. Once the beef is cooked through, drain any excess grease.
  2. Make the Sloppy Joe Mixture: Add the ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, garlic powder, salt, and pepper to the skillet. Stir everything well to combine. Continue to cook over medium heat until the mixture has thickened to your desired consistency.
  3. Bake the Toast: While the sloppy joe mixture is simmering, place the Texas Toast on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 5 to 6 minutes, or until golden brown.
  4. Assemble & Finish: Carefully remove the golden-brown toast from the oven. Evenly spoon the sloppy joe mixture on top of each piece of toast. Top each piece with a ¼ ounce sprinkle of the shredded Cheddar cheese. For melted cheese, return to the oven for an additional 1 to 2 minutes before serving.

Enjoy this deliciously messy meal!
