Soft Christmas Peppermints

Ingredients:

Butter, softened 1/2 cup
Powdered sugar 3 cups
Heavy whipping cream 2 tablespoons
Peppermint extract (adjust to taste) 1/4 teaspoon
Red gel food coloring As needed

How To Make Soft Christmas Peppermints:

Step 1: Beat the Butter: In a mixing bowl, beat the 1/2 cup softened butter until it is light and fluffy.

Step 2: Add the Rest of the Ingredients: Slowly mix in the 2 tbsp cream, 3 cups powdered sugar, and 1/4 tsp peppermint extract. Beat until the dough becomes firm and smooth.

Step 3: Divide and Color: Divide the dough into two parts. Leave approximately 3/4 of the dough white, and color the remaining 1/4 with red gel food coloring until the desired shade of red is reached.

Step 4: Roll and Twist Mints: Roll out small portions of each dough color into long, thin ropes. Twist the white and red ropes together. Pinch off small sections of the twisted ropes to form individual mints.

Step 5: Dry and Set: Let the mints air dry for 1-2 hours on a sheet of parchment paper. Then, cut them into bite-sized pieces if they were formed in longer twists. Allow the mints to air dry for a full 24 hours before serving or storing to ensure they set properly.
