Baking Powder 1 teaspoon
Self-Rising Flour 2 cups

Instructions:

Preheat the Oven

  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it with cooking spray.

Prepare the Dough

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the self-rising flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder.
  2. Add the shortening to the dry ingredients and use a pastry cutter or fork to cut it into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Stir in the grated cheddar cheese until evenly distributed.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix the buttermilk and melted butter together.
  5. Gradually pour the buttermilk mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring until a soft dough forms.

Shape the Biscuits

  1. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface.
  2. Use your hands to gently pat the dough into a rectangle, about 1 inch thick.
  3. Use a biscuit cutter or a round glass to cut out biscuits from the dough.
  4. Place the biscuits onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 1 inch of space between each biscuit.

Bake the Biscuits

  1. Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake the biscuits for 10-12 minutes, or until they are golden brown and puffed up.
  2. Remove the biscuits from the oven and let them cool slightly on the baking sheet before serving.
