Poor Man Cubed Steak
Ingredients:
Ingredients | Quantity |
---|---|
Ground beef or ground turkey | 1 pound |
Breadcrumbs | 1 cup |
Milk | 1/2 cup |
Large egg | 1 |
Salt | 1 teaspoon |
Black pepper | 1/2 teaspoon |
Garlic powder | 1/2 teaspoon |
Onion powder | 1/2 teaspoon |
All-purpose flour | 1/4 cup |
Vegetable oil | 2 tablespoons |
Beef or chicken broth (for gravy) | 2 cups |
Instructions:
- Prepare the Meat Mixture:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground meat, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix until well combined.
- Shape and Coat:
- Shape the meat mixture into oval-shaped patties, similar to traditional cubed steaks.
- Coat each patty in flour, shaking off any excess.
- Cook the Patties:
- In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
- Brown the patties on both sides, cooking them until they are cooked through, about 4-5 minutes per side.
- Make Gravy:
- Once the patties are cooked, remove them from the skillet and set them aside.
- In the same skillet, add a bit more flour if needed and stir to create a roux.
- Gradually whisk in the beef or chicken broth, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet.
- Simmer the gravy until it thickens to your desired consistency.
- Serve:
- Place the cooked patties back into the skillet with the gravy, letting them simmer for a few minutes to soak up the flavors.
- Serve the Poor Man’s Cubed Steak over mashed potatoes or rice, spooning the gravy on top.
