- Step 2: Cook the Beef Heat the 1 tablespoon olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the 1 lb ground beef (or thinly sliced steak strips) and cook until it is completely browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks. Drain any excess fat from the skillet.
