How To Make Classic Beef Lasagna:

Step 2: Sauté Aromatics and Beef: Heat the 1 tbsp of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and 2 minced garlic cloves, sautéing until the onion is translucent. Add the 1 lb of ground beef and cook until fully browned. Drain any excess fat from the pan.

Step 3: Simmer the Meat Sauce: Stir the 24 oz jar of marinara sauce into the beef. Let it simmer on low for about 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Step 4: Prepare the Cheese Filling: In a medium bowl, whisk the 1 egg into the 15 oz container of ricotta cheese until smooth and well combined.
Step 5: Assemble the Layers:
-
Spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish.
-
Place 3 noodles on top.
-
Spread 1/2 of the ricotta mixture over the noodles.
-
Sprinkle 2/3 cup (a third) of the mozzarella over the ricotta.
-
Add another layer of meat sauce.
-
Repeat the layers, ending with noodles topped with the last of the meat sauce.
Step 6: Final Topping and Bake: Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella and the 1/2 cup of grated Parmesan over the top. Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil. Bake for 25 minutes.
Step 7: Brown the Cheese: Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until the cheese is bubbling and has golden-brown spots.
Step 8: Rest and Serve: Let the lasagna rest for at least 10 minutes before slicing. This is the secret to getting those perfect, clean layers that don’t slide apart!
