Ingredients:

For the Filling Quantity
Frozen bread dough, thawed 1 loaf
Cooked breakfast sausage 1 pound
Shredded sharp cheddar cheese or cheese mix 8-10 oz
Egg 1
White onion, chopped 1
Butter, melted For brushing

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Filling:

    • Cook the sausage and chopped onion together in a skillet over medium heat until the onion is softened and the sausage is cooked through.
    • In a bowl, combine the cooked sausage and onion mixture with the shredded cheese and beaten egg. Let the mixture cool slightly.
  2. Prepare the Dough:

    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a baking sheet or line it with parchment paper.
    • On a lightly floured surface, roll out the thawed bread dough into a large rectangle, about 12×15 inches.
  3. Assemble the Bread:

    • Spread the cooled sausage and cheese mixture evenly over the rolled-out dough, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges.
    • Carefully roll the dough into a log shape, starting from one of the longer sides and tucking the ends under to seal the filling inside.
    • Place the rolled dough seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Bake the Bread:

    • Brush the top of the dough with melted butter.
    • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  5. Serve:

    • Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack for about 10 minutes before slicing.
    • Serve the Sausage & Cheese Stuffed Bread warm. It pairs well with a side salad or a bowl of soup.
