Ingredients:
For the Filling | Quantity |
---|---|
Frozen bread dough, thawed | 1 loaf |
Cooked breakfast sausage | 1 pound |
Shredded sharp cheddar cheese or cheese mix | 8-10 oz |
Egg | 1 |
White onion, chopped | 1 |
Butter, melted | For brushing |
Instructions:
-
Prepare the Filling:
- Cook the sausage and chopped onion together in a skillet over medium heat until the onion is softened and the sausage is cooked through.
- In a bowl, combine the cooked sausage and onion mixture with the shredded cheese and beaten egg. Let the mixture cool slightly.
-
Prepare the Dough:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a baking sheet or line it with parchment paper.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the thawed bread dough into a large rectangle, about 12×15 inches.
-
Assemble the Bread:
- Spread the cooled sausage and cheese mixture evenly over the rolled-out dough, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges.
- Carefully roll the dough into a log shape, starting from one of the longer sides and tucking the ends under to seal the filling inside.
- Place the rolled dough seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.
-
Bake the Bread:
- Brush the top of the dough with melted butter.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
-
Serve:
- Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack for about 10 minutes before slicing.
- Serve the Sausage & Cheese Stuffed Bread warm. It pairs well with a side salad or a bowl of soup.
