Mashed Potatoes with Ground Beef Gravy

This Mashed Potatoes with Ground Beef Gravy is the definition of a “comfort bowl.” It’s essentially a deconstructed shepherd’s pie, featuring silky, buttery potatoes topped with a savory, flour-thickened meat gravy. The hint of curry powder in the gravy adds an unexpected warmth that makes this dish stand out from standard meat-and-potato recipes.

How To Make Mashed Potatoes with Ground Beef Gravy:

Step 3: Brown the Beef and Aromatics: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the 1 lb of ground beef for 5/7 minutes until browned. Drain the excess fat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for another 5/6 minutes until translucent. Stir in the garlic for the final 1 minute.
Step 4: Create the Gravy: Sprinkle the 2 tablespoons of flour over the meat mixture and stir for 1 minute. Gradually pour in the 1 1/4 cups of beef broth, stirring constantly to avoid lumps. Simmer for 3/5 minutes until the gravy thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon.
Step 5: Season and Add Veggies: Stir in the salt, pepper, and optional curry powder. Fold in the 1 cup of peas and carrots and cook for 2/3 minutes until heated through.
Step 6: Serve: Spoon a generous heap of mashed potatoes into a bowl and top with a large ladle of the hot ground beef gravy.
