Ingredients:

For the Apple Dumplings:

Ingredients: Quantity
Apple (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Gala) 1 large
Pillsbury Croissant Dough 1 box (8 ounces)
Ingredients: Quantity
Sugar 2/3 cup
Butter 1/2 cup
Ground Cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon
Vanilla Extract 1/2 teaspoon

For the Baking Liquid:

Ingredients: Quantity
Lemon-Lime Soda (7-Up or Sprite) 3/4 cup

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking pan.

  2. Wash and core the apple. Cut it into 8-10 wedges.

  3. Unfold the crescent dough sheet and separate the triangles. Wrap each apple wedge in the dough, starting at the wide end, to create a crescent-shaped dumpling.

  4. Place the wrapped apple wedges (dumplings) seam-side down in the greased baking pan.

  5. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the sugar and ground cinnamon, whisking constantly until the sugar dissolves and the mixture thickens slightly. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.

  6. Pour the cinnamon sugar sauce over the dumplings in the baking pan. Then, carefully pour the lemon-lime soda around the dumplings.

  7. Bake the apple dumplings for 40-45 minutes, or until golden brown and apples are tender.

  8. Remove from oven and let cool slightly before serving.
