  1. Preheat Oven & Prep Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×9-inch baking pan with foil, ensuring the foil comes up over the sides.
  2. Mix the Batter: In a mixing bowl, cream together the 1 cup of granulated sugar and ½ cup of softened butter until the mixture is light in color and texture. Add the 2 eggs and 3 teaspoons of vanilla extract and mix until fully incorporated.
  3. Add Dry Ingredients & Bake: Slowly add the ¼ cup of unsweetened cocoa powder and 1 cup of all-purpose flour and mix just until the color is uniform. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a knife inserted in the center comes out mostly dry with only a few moist crumbs. Do not overbake for the best texture.

  1. Combine Ingredients: While the brownies are cooling, begin to make the frosting. In a medium bowl, combine the 2 tablespoons of softened butter, 3 tablespoons of milk, 2 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder, and 1 ½ cups of powdered sugar until a smooth frosting texture is reached. If the mixture is too dry, add milk 1 tablespoon at a time. If it’s too runny, add powdered sugar 1 tablespoon at a time.
  2. Frost & Serve: Once the frosting is the right texture, spread it over the brownies while they are still warm so that some of the icing melts into the cake. Cut into squares and use the foil to help lift the brownies out of the pan.
