Kentucky Hot Brown Dip

This Kentucky Hot Brown Dip is a creamy and flavorful appetizer inspired by the classic Kentucky Hot Brown sandwich. It features a rich cheese sauce, savory turkey, crispy bacon, and juicy cherry tomatoes, all baked together for a delightful and comforting treat.

Shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese 2 cups, divided
Turkey breast, cubed 6-8 ounces
Bacon, cooked and chopped 8 strips
Cherry tomatoes, halved 1 pint
Parsley, chopped 2 teaspoons, for garnish
Kosher salt and fresh cracked black pepper To taste
Crackers or bread For dipping

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Base: Melt butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add chopped onion and sauté until translucent.
  2. Make the Roux: Stir in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly, to create a roux.
  3. Add Milk and Cream Cheese: Gradually whisk in whole milk until smooth. Add very soft cream cheese and stir until melted and incorporated.
  4. Season the Dip: Stir in sour cream, nutmeg, garlic powder, cumin, and paprika. Season with salt and pepper. Simmer for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Add Cheese: Remove from heat and stir in 1 1/2 cups of shredded cheese until melted.
  6. Combine Turkey and Bacon: Fold in cubed turkey and chopped bacon.
  7. Assemble and Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Transfer dip to an oven-safe dish. Spread evenly.
  8. Top with Tomatoes and Cheese: Arrange halved cherry tomatoes over the top. Sprinkle with remaining 1/2 cup of shredded cheese.
  9. Bake Until Bubbly: Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  10. Garnish and Serve: Remove from oven and garnish with chopped parsley. Serve hot with crackers or bread.
