Ingredients

Ingredient Quantity
Rice Chex cereal 4 cups
Rice Krispies cereal 2 cups
Butter 1 cup
Brown sugar 1 cup
Vanilla extract 2 teaspoons
Cinnamon 1 teaspoon
Salt 1 1/2 teaspoons

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven & Prep Sheet: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Combine Cereals: Pour the Rice Chex cereal and Rice Krispies cereal into a large, heat-safe bowl. Set aside.
  3. Make Caramel: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, stir in the brown sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until the sugar is dissolved.
  4. Boil & Thicken Caramel: Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring continuously. Continue cooking the bubbling mixture for 2-3 minutes, until it thickens slightly and lightens in color.
  5. Coat Cereal: Remove the caramel from the heat and immediately pour it over the cereals in the large bowl. Toss gently but quickly to evenly coat all the cereal pieces.
  6. Bake: Spread the coated cereal into an even layer on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 7-9 minutes.
  7. Cool & Store: Allow the crackle to cool completely on the baking sheet. As it cools, it will harden. Once cool, break it into small clusters. Store in an airtight container at room temperature.
