Homemade French Fries

A classic comfort food, elevated. These homemade French fries are crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Perfect for dipping in your favorite sauce.

Russet Potatoes 4 large
Vegetable Oil For frying
Salt To taste

For the Seasoning (Optional):

Paprika 1 teaspoon
Garlic Powder 1/2 teaspoon
Onion Powder 1/2 teaspoon
Dried Thyme 1/2 teaspoon
Dried Oregano 1/2 teaspoon

Instructions:

  1. Prep the Potatoes:
    • Peel the potatoes and cut them into even-sized sticks.
    • Rinse the cut potatoes under cold water to remove excess starch.
    • Pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel or paper towels.
  2. Preheat the Oil:
    • Fill a large pot or Dutch oven with vegetable oil, leaving enough room for the potatoes.
    • Heat the oil over medium-high heat to 325°F (163°C).
  3. First Fry:
    • Working in batches, carefully add the potatoes to the hot oil.
    • Fry for 5-7 minutes or until they start to turn golden.
    • Remove and drain on a paper towel-lined baking sheet.
  4. Increase Oil Temperature:
    • Increase the heat to 375°F (190°C).
  5. Second Fry:
    • Return the partially fried potatoes to the hot oil in batches.
    • Fry for 3-5 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
    • Remove and drain on a paper towel-lined baking sheet.
  6. Season (Optional):
    • Toss the hot fries with the seasoning mixture, if desired.
  7. Serve:
    • Transfer the fries to a serving platter.
    • Sprinkle with salt to taste.
    • Serve hot and crispy.
