In that fateful year, Prince Charles quarreled with Diana, Prince Andrew separated from Sarah Ferguson, Princess Anne finalized her divorce, and Windsor Castle suffered devastating flames.
Mohammed al Fayed, the proprietor of Harrods, subsequently promulgated bizarre allegations concerning Lord Robert, asserting his non-involvement in Diana’s tragic car accident of 1997.
Born in 1941 at Sandringham House in Norfolk, during the zenith of the Second World War, Lord Robert’s early life was steeped in historic significance.
Following his education at Eton College, he enlisted with the Scots Guards on a brief commission in 1960.
By 1963, he had embarked on a career in banking with Allen Harvey and Ross Ltd., a firm engaged in discount brokerage and financial services.
In 1978, Lord Robert entered into matrimony with Lady Jane Fellowes at the venerable Westminster Abbey.
Diana Spencer, Lady Jane’s sister, who would later ascend to the title of Princess Diana, graced the ceremony as a bridesmaid.
