Cheesy Garlic Breadsticks

Ingredients

For the Bread

1 ½ cups + 2 tbsp All-purpose flour
1 tbsp Dry instant yeast
3 tbsp Unsalted butter Cubed, room temperature
½ tbsp Granulated sugar
1 cup Lukewarm milk
1 tsp Salt
As needed Lukewarm water For kneading
Cornmeal For dusting

For the Topping

2 cloves Garlic Minced
2 tbsp Unsalted butter Softened, room temperature
1 tsp Italian herb seasoning
1 ⅓ cups Mozzarella cheese Grated
½ cup Parmesan cheese Grated
Salt & pepper To taste
Handful Fresh parsley Chopped

Instructions

  1. Activate the Yeast
    • In a medium bowl, mix lukewarm milk, yeast, 2 tbsp flour, and sugar.
    • Let rest 10 minutes until foamy and bubbly.
  2. Make the Dough
    • In a large bowl, combine flour and cubed butter. Mix with fork or hands until crumbly.
    • Add salt, then pour in the yeast mixture. Knead well, adding lukewarm water gradually until smooth.
    • Place dough in a clean bowl, drizzle with olive oil, cover, and let rise 1 hour (until doubled).
  3. Prepare the Topping
    • In a small bowl, mix garlic, softened butter, Italian herbs, salt, and pepper.
  4. Shape the Dough
    • Dust a baking sheet with cornmeal.
    • Turn dough onto a floured surface, knead 5–8 minutes, then roll into a 1-inch thick rectangle.
    • Transfer to baking sheet, pressing gently to fit. Cover and rest 15–20 minutes.
  5. Bake the Base
    • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
    • Bake dough for 15 minutes.
  6. Add Topping & Finish
    • Remove from oven, brush with garlic butter, and sprinkle mozzarella + Parmesan.
    • Increase oven to 450°F (230°C). Bake 8–10 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  7. Serve
    • Slice into sticks, sprinkle with fresh parsley, and serve hot.
