Delicious! Never made this in a slow cooker before, but came out great!

This recipe lets you enjoy all the flavor of fried chicken without the mess of frying! The slow cooker does the legwork, resulting in juicy, tender chicken with a crispy coating.

Ingredient Quantity
Chicken thighs or drumsticks 4-6 pieces
Buttermilk 1 cup
All-purpose flour 1 cup
Salt 1 teaspoon
Black pepper 1/2 teaspoon
Paprika 1/2 teaspoon
Garlic powder 1/2 teaspoon
Onion powder 1/2 teaspoon
Cayenne pepper (optional) 1/4 teaspoon
Olive oil or melted butter 2 tablespoons

  1. Marinate your chicken in buttermilk for at least 4 hours, or ideally overnight. This step is key for tender and flavorful chicken.
  2. In a shallow dish, combine the flour with all the spices: salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper (if using).
  3. Dredge each marinated chicken piece in the seasoned flour mixture, making sure it’s well coated.
  4. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add your oil or butter. Sear the chicken pieces on all sides until lightly golden brown. Don’t worry about cooking them all the way through at this point.
  5. Transfer the browned chicken pieces to your slow cooker. Cook on low for 5-6 hours, or until the chicken is fully cooked through and tender.
  6. For an extra crisp on the outside, broil the cooked chicken on a baking sheet in the oven for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your delicious slow cooker fried chicken!
