Step 3: Make Garlic Butter: In a large mixing bowl, combine the 1/2 cup melted butter and 1 tablespoon garlic powder. Note: If you are using garlic salt instead of garlic powder, reduce the amount to 2 teaspoons.
Step 4: Coat Biscuits: Add the biscuit pieces to the bowl with the butter mixture and toss gently until every piece is coated. You may use your hands if needed to ensure even coverage.
Step 5: Layer Casserole: Spread half of the coated biscuit pieces in an even layer in the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle half of the 3 cups shredded cheese evenly over the top. Add the remaining biscuit pieces on top, spreading them out as evenly as you can. Finish with the remaining cheese.
Step 6: Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the biscuit pieces are cooked through and golden brown in the center. If the top starts to brown too quickly, loosely tent the dish with foil for the last 5-10 minutes.
Step 7: Rest and Serve: Let the casserole rest for about 5 minutes before serving. Serve warm, allowing everyone to pull off pieces.
