Big Mac Cheeseburger Casserole

Ingredients:

Big Mac Sauce:
Ingredient Quantity
Mayonnaise 1 cup
Ketchup ¼ cup
Sweet relish 2 tablespoons
White vinegar 1 teaspoon
Onion powder ¼ teaspoon
For the Casserole:
Ingredient Quantity
Ground beef 2 pounds
White onion, diced 1 cup
Garlic powder 1 tablespoon
Salt 1 teaspoon
Black pepper ½ teaspoon
Shredded cheddar cheese 1 cup
American cheese slices 12
Tater tots or discs 32 ounce bag
For Topping (Optional):
Topping
Iceberg lettuce, shredded
Dill pickles, diced
White onion, finely diced

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Make Big Mac Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the 1 cup mayonnaise, ¼ cup ketchup, 2 tablespoons sweet relish, 1 teaspoon white vinegar, and ¼ teaspoon onion powder until thoroughly combined and smooth. Set aside.
  3. Cook Beef and Onions: Heat an oven-safe skillet (like a large cast-iron skillet, 10-12 inches) over medium-high heat. Add the 2 pounds ground beef and 1 cup diced white onion. Cook, breaking up the beef with a spoon, until the beef is browned and the onion is softened. Drain any excess fat from the skillet. Stir in the 1 tablespoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon salt, and ½ teaspoon black pepper into the cooked beef and onion mixture.
  4. Combine Filling: Pour the prepared Big Mac sauce into the skillet with the seasoned beef and onions. Add the 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese and mix well until all ingredients are combined and the cheese begins to melt into the sauce. If you don’t have an oven-safe skillet, transfer this beef mixture to a 9×13-inch baking dish now.
  5. Layer and Top: Place the 12 slices of American cheese evenly over the top of the beef and sauce filling. Finally, arrange the 32 ounce bag of tater tots or discs in an even layer over the American cheese.
  6. Bake: Bake the casserole uncovered for 40-45 minutes, or until the tater tots are golden brown and crispy, and the filling is bubbly.
  7. Garnish and Serve: Let the casserole sit for about 5 minutes after removing it from the oven to allow it to set slightly. Top generously with fresh shredded iceberg lettuce, diced dill pickles, and finely diced white onion if desired, for that authentic Big Mac experience. Serve warm.
