How To Make Baked Spaghetti and Meatballs Casserole:

  1. Step 1: Prep Oven and Meatballs: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese, milk, chopped onion, egg, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, dried oregano, and dried basil. Mix until well combined. Form the mixture into meatballs, about 1 to 1 1/2 inches in diameter.
  2. Step 2: Cook Pasta and Brown Meatballs: Cook the 12 oz spaghetti according to package instructions until it’s al dente. Drain and set aside. In a large skillet, heat some olive oil over medium heat. Add the meatballs and brown them on all sides.
  3. Step 3: Assemble Base: Spread half of the 24 oz jar marinara sauce in the bottom of the greased baking dish. Place the cooked spaghetti on top of the sauce.
  4. Step 4: Coat and Layer: Pour the remaining marinara sauce over the spaghetti and gently toss to coat. Arrange the browned meatballs on top of the spaghetti.
  5. Step 5: Add Cheese and Bake: Sprinkle 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese and 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese evenly over the top. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  6. Step 6: Finish Baking: Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the meatballs are cooked through (internal temperature $160^\circ$F/$71^\circ$C). If desired, garnish with fresh basil leaves before serving.
