Ingredient Amount
Streaky Bacon (diced) 250g/8.8oz
Small Onion (finely diced) 1
Large Eggs 6
Whole Milk 1 1/2 Cups
Plain Baguette Bread (1-inch cubes) 7 Cups
Season All Seasoning 1/2 Tsp (see note for details)
Dijon Mustard 1 Tsp
Salt & Pepper To taste
Shredded Monterrey Jack or Cheddar cheese 2 Cups

Method:

Preparing the Ingredients:

  1. Begin by cooking the onions until they are softened. Once done, remove them from the pan and drain them on a paper towel.
  2. In the same pan, add the diced bacon and cook until it turns lightly browned and crispy. Once cooked, remove it from the pan and drain it on the same paper towel as the onions. Reserve 2 tablespoons of the cooked bacon for topping.

Mixing and Preparing the Strata:

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, Season All seasoning, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  2. Add the cubed baguette bread, 1 1/2 cups of shredded cheese, cooked onions, and bacon to the egg mixture. Mix everything thoroughly to ensure even distribution of ingredients.
  3. Cover the bowl and let it rest in the fridge for at least 30 minutes to allow the bread to soak up the egg mixture.

Baking the Strata:

  1. Preheat your oven to 180C/350F.
  2. Generously butter or grease a 20cm/8-inch springform cake tin.
  3. Pour the bread mixture into the prepared cake tin and gently pat it down to create an even layer.
  4. Sprinkle the reserved bacon and remaining 1/2 cup of shredded cheese on top of the mixture.
  5. Loosely cover the cake tin with foil.
  6. Bake the strata in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 25-30 minutes or until the top turns golden brown and crispy.
  7. Allow the strata to rest for 5 minutes before removing it from the springform tin.
  8. Garnish with parsley and slice into servings to enjoy this delectable Bacon and Cheese Breakfast Strata.

Additional Notes:

  • If your springform pan tends to leak, place it on a tray lined with baking paper to catch any drips.
  • The bread should absorb most of the egg mixture, minimizing leakage during baking.
  • Alternatively, you can prepare this strata in a regular shallow baking dish for equally delicious results.
