Worcestershire sauce | 1 teaspoon |
Instructions:
- Make the Secret Sauce: Combine mayonnaise, ketchup, sweet pickle relish, and Worcestershire sauce in a small bowl. Mix well and set aside.
- Caramelize the Onions: Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until caramelized (15-20 minutes). Remove from heat and set aside.
- Cook the Patties: Divide ground beef into 4 portions and shape into thin patties. Season with salt and pepper. Cook in the same skillet over medium-high heat until cooked through (3-4 minutes per side). Remove and set aside.
- Assemble the Patty Melts: Butter one side of each rye bread slice. Place 4 slices, butter-side down, on a skillet or griddle over medium heat.
- Layer the Ingredients: Top each bread slice with Swiss cheese, a cooked patty, caramelized onions, cheddar cheese, and another bread slice (butter-side up).
- Cook and Serve: Cook until golden brown and cheese is melted (2-3 minutes per side). Remove from heat, let rest for a minute, slice in half, and serve with the secret sauce.
