Apple Cinnamon Lasagna Roll

Ingredients:

Ingredient Quantity
Cinnamon rolls 2 packets
Large apples (Granny Smith or Golden Delicious) 4
Sugar 1/2 cup
Cinnamon 1 teaspoon
Nutmeg 1/2 teaspoon
Cornstarch 1 tablespoon
Caramel sauce 1/2 cup

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven & Prepare Dish: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly spray an 8″ x 8″ x 2″ glass or ceramic baking dish (or a 7″ x 9″ x 2″ dish) with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. Prepare Apple Filling: In a bowl, combine the peeled and diced apples, sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Toss gently until the apple cubes are evenly coated.
  3. Prepare Cinnamon Roll Dough: Open the packets of cinnamon rolls. Cut each cinnamon roll into 1/2-inch wide strips. On a lightly floured work surface, roll out each strip until it becomes somewhat flattened and fluffy. The dough can be sticky, so dusting your hands with flour and tapping them to loosen the dough can be helpful.
  4. First Layer: Arrange the first layer of flattened cinnamon roll strips on the bottom and up the sides of the prepared baking dish. Press the strips with your hands to seal any seams and create a continuous base.
  5. First Filling Layer: Spread about half of the prepared apple filling evenly over the first layer of cinnamon rolls. Drizzle 2-3 tablespoons of the caramel sauce over the apples. Cover this with another layer of flattened cinnamon roll strips, pressing to seal.
  6. Second Filling Layer: Spread the remaining apple filling over this new layer of cinnamon rolls. Pour the remaining caramel sauce over the apples. Cover with the last of the flattened cinnamon roll strips.
  7. Bake: Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. Then, remove the aluminum foil and continue to bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  8. Cool and Serve: Remove the dish from the oven and allow the Apple Cinnamon Lasagna Roll to cool for at least 30 minutes before serving. This cooling time allows the layers to set. Once cooled, drizzle the icing (which typically comes with the cinnamon roll packets) generously over the top. Slice and serve warm.
