Ingredients:

Granulated sugar 1/4 cup + 1/2 cup
Active dry yeast 2 1/4 tsp
Salt 1/2 tsp
Unsalted butter 4 tbsp + 1/4 cup
Whole milk 1/3 cup
Water 1/4 cup
Large eggs 2
Vanilla extract 1 tsp
Ground cinnamon 2 tsp

Instructions:

  1. Combine dry ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 3/4 cups of flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
  2. Prepare warm milk mixture: In a small saucepan, heat the butter and milk over medium heat until the butter is melted. Remove from heat and add water. Let it cool until warm to the touch but not hot.
  3. Create dough: Add the milk mixture to the flour mixture and stir to combine. Add eggs and vanilla extract. Beat on medium speed until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead dough: Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5-6 minutes, or until smooth and elastic. Add the remaining 1/4 cup of flour if the dough is too sticky.
  5. Rise: Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1-1.5 hours.
  6. Prepare filling: Mix together the 1/2 cup of sugar and cinnamon. Set aside. Melt the 1/4 cup of butter.
  7. Shape dough: Once the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a lightly floured surface. Roll it into a 12×20 inch rectangle.
  8. Add filling: Brush the dough with the melted butter and sprinkle evenly with the cinnamon sugar mixture.
  9. Cut and stack: Cut the dough into six 12-inch strips. Stack the strips on top of each other and cut the stack into six equal pieces.
  10. Place in pan: Place the dough squares cut side down in a greased 9×5 inch loaf pan. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 30-40 minutes.
  11. Bake: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the bread for 30-35 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the center is cooked through.
