How To Make The BEST Dinner Rolls:

  1. Step 1: Combine Initial Ingredients: In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine 3 cups of flour, 2 tablespoons rapid rise yeast, 1/3 cup sugar, 1 tsp salt, 1 1/2 cups warm milk, 5 tablespoons softened butter, and 1 room temperature egg.
  2. Step 2: Start Mixing: Attach the dough hook and turn the mixer on to the lowest speed. Mix until the flour is incorporated, scraping down the sides of the bowl as necessary. Increase speed to medium and beat for 2 minutes.
  3. Step 3: Add Remaining Flour and Knead: Add 1/2 cup flour and blend with the dough hook until incorporated. Add another 1/2 cup flour and repeat, mixing at medium speed for another 2 minutes until a ball of dough is formed. Add additional flour, a little at a time, as necessary until the dough is slightly sticky and soft, pulling away from the edge of the bowl.
  4. Step 4: First Rise (30 Minutes): Transfer the dough to a lightly greased bowl and cover with a towel or plastic wrap. Let rise for 30 minutes at room temperature.
  5. Step 5: Shape Rolls: Remove the towel or plastic wrap and deflate the dough by punching down lightly. Pinch off pieces of the dough and form 24 rolls. (Target roll weight is about 2 ounces each, but this will vary).
  6. Step 6: Second Rise (30 Minutes): Transfer the rolls to a lightly greased quarter baking sheet or 9×13 baking dish, nestling them close together. Cover and let rise for an additional 30 minutes at room temperature.
  7. Step 7: Bake: Preheat oven to 375∘F (190∘C). Bake the rolls for 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through. If the rolls are getting too brown, tent them loosely with foil.
  8. Step 8: Finish and Serve: Remove rolls from the oven and immediately brush the hot rolls with the 2 tablespoons melted butter. Serve immediately.
