Step-by-step Instructions:
- Preheat Oven & Prep Pan: Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). Melt the 1 stick of butter in a microwave-safe bowl. Pour the melted butter directly into an 8×8 or 9×9-inch baking dish, ensuring the dish is not too small or shallow.
- Make the Dough: In a medium-sized bowl, combine all of the dry ingredients: 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour, 4 tsp baking powder, 4 tsp sugar, and 2 tsp salt. Whisk them together until well mixed. Next, add the 2 cups buttermilk to the dry ingredients. Mix everything together with a spoon or spatula until a moist, thick dough is formed. Do not overmix.
- Assemble and Cut: Using a spatula, place the dough directly on top of the melted butter in the baking dish. Spread the dough evenly across the pan until it touches the sides. The dough should be “swimming” in the butter at this point. Using a knife or a bench scraper, cut the unbaked dough into 9 even squares without separating them.
- Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the top of the biscuits are beautifully golden brown and the biscuits are cooked through.
- Serve: Enjoy these biscuits hot for breakfast, lunch, or dinner! They are the perfect companion to any meal, and are especially delicious with a spread of raspberry jam.
