Instructions:
- Warm up the Oven & Prepare Dish: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare a 9×13-inch baking dish by lightly greasing it with butter or cooking spray.
- Get the Crescent Rolls Ready & Fill: Unroll the refrigerated crescent roll dough and separate it into individual triangles. For each crescent roll triangle, place a spoonful or two of the apple pie filling in the wider end of the triangle. Roll up the crescent roll from the wide end towards the pointed end, encasing the apple filling. Pinch the edges of the dough to seal the dumplings tightly so the filling doesn’t leak out during baking. Place the assembled dumplings seam-side down in the prepared baking dish.
- Prepare the Sauce: In a medium bowl, melt the 2 sticks (1 cup) unsalted butter. Add the 1 cup brown sugar to the melted butter and whisk until well blended and the sugar is mostly dissolved.
- Top Dumplings with Sauce & Soda: Pour the prepared butter-brown sugar sauce evenly over the top of all the apple dumplings in the baking dish. Carefully pour the 1 (12-ounce) can of lemon-lime soda around and over the dumplings in the baking dish. This helps to create a bubbly, caramelized sauce during baking.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the crust of the dumplings is golden brown and the sauce is bubbly and thickened.
- Enjoy: Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving. The sauce will thicken further as it cools. Take pleasure in these tasty apple dumplings, perhaps with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!
