Garlic powder 1/4 teaspoon

Dry red or white wine 1/3 cup

Toppings Of your choice

Instructions:

  1. Combine Burger Ingredients: In a medium bowl, combine the ground lean beef, pressed garlic, finely chopped green onions, chutney or pepper jelly, capers, rubbed sage, garlic powder, sugar, celery seed, seasoning salt, onion powder, chicken bouillon powder, and beaten egg. Season with salt and pepper to your taste.
  2. Rest the Mixture: Allow the combined ingredients to sit at room temperature for 10 minutes. This allows the flavors to meld together.
  3. Form Patties: Gently form the seasoned beef mixture into 4 equal-sized patties. Avoid overworking the meat to keep the burgers tender.
  4. Sear and Simmer: Add the vegetable oil to a large skillet and heat it over medium-high heat until shimmering. Carefully place the burger patties in the hot skillet. Immediately turn the heat down to low. Cook the burgers for 4 to 6 minutes on this side.
  5. Flip and Sear Again: Flip the burgers to the other side and return the heat to medium-high. Cook for 1 minute to sear the second side.
  6. Finish Cooking: Turn the heat down to low again and continue cooking the burgers for another 4 to 5 minutes on each side, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C) for safe consumption.
  7. Add Wine and Simmer (Optional): For added flavor and moisture, after flipping the burgers for the final cooking stage, you can pour the dry red or white wine into the skillet. Cover the skillet and let the burgers simmer in the wine for the last few minutes of cooking. The wine will reduce and infuse the burgers with its flavor.
  8. Prepare Buns and Toppings: While the burgers are finishing, prepare your buns and any desired toppings.
  9. Assemble and Serve: Once the burgers are cooked to your liking, place them on the prepared buns. Top with your favorite condiments and toppings. Ernest Hemingway reportedly suggested serving these flavorful burgers with a simple salad and a cold beer. Enjoy this literary-inspired culinary creation!
