Wet Burritos Recipe

These Wet Burritos are a hearty and flavorful Mexican dish. The combination of ground beef, beans, and a rich sauce makes for a satisfying meal.

Ingredients:

Ground beef 1 lb
Chopped onion ½ cup
Minced garlic 2 tsp
Cumin 1 tsp
Salt ½ tsp
Pepper ½ tsp
Diced green chile peppers 4.5 oz
Refried beans 16 oz
Tomato sauce 8 oz
Enchilada sauce 10 oz
Chili no-beans (Hormel) 15 oz
Flour burrito tortillas (about 12 inches) 6
Shredded lettuce 2 cups
Shredded Mexican blend cheese 3 cups
Chopped green onions For garnish
Additional desired toppings (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Cook ground beef: Brown ground beef and onion in a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook and stir until evenly browned and onion begins to soften. Drain grease.
  3. Season beef mixture: Season with garlic, cumin, salt, and pepper. Stir in green chilies and refried beans until well blended. Remove from heat and keep warm.
  4. Make sauce: In a saucepan, combine tomato sauce, no-bean chili, and enchilada sauce. Whisk together until well mixed. Cook over medium heat until heated through. Remove from heat and keep warm.
  5. Assemble burritos:
    • Divide beef and bean mixture into 6 portions.
    • Place one burrito tortilla on a plate.
    • Place 1/6 of the beef mixture in the center of the tortilla.
    • Top with a little cheese and lettuce (if desired).
    • Fold in the left and right sides of the tortilla over the filling.
    • Fold in the top and bottom sides of the tortilla over the filling to create an envelope.
    • Repeat with remaining tortillas.
  6. Arrange burritos: Place seam-side down in two greased 9×13 inch baking dishes.
  7. Pour sauce: Pour the entire sauce over the burritos.
  8. Top with cheese: Sprinkle remaining cheese evenly over the burritos.
  9. Bake: Bake in preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until burritos are heated through and cheese is melted.
