Spaghetti Meat Sauce Recipe

Spaghetti meat sauce is a quintessential comfort food that has been enjoyed by families around the world for generations. Its origins can be traced back to Italy, where variations of meat sauces have been simmering on stovetops for centuries. The simplicity of its ingredients – ground meat, tomatoes, onions, garlic, and herbs – belies the depth of flavor that develops as the sauce simmers slowly, allowing the flavors to meld and intensify.

Diced tomatoes (14.5 oz can) 1 can
Crushed tomatoes (24 oz can) 1 can
Mixed tomatoes (24 oz cans) 2 cans
Olive oil 3 tablespoons
Garlic, minced 5 cloves
Onion, diced 1 large or 2 medium

  1. Sauté Aromatics: Heat olive oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add garlic, onion, and green pepper. Sauté until softened (5-7 minutes).
  2. Brown Beef: Push vegetables aside, add ground beef. Cook until browned and no longer pink, breaking it up with a spoon.
  3. Flavor the Sauce: Stir in diced tomatoes, crushed tomatoes, and mixed tomatoes with their juices. Add garlic powder, onion powder, parsley, basil, Italian seasoning, oregano, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.
  4. Simmer: Bring to a simmer over medium-low heat. Simmer uncovered for at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally, to thicken and meld flavors.
