This hearty and comforting dish features layers of creamy potatoes, savory sausage, and a rich, cheesy au gratin topping. It’s perfect for a cozy dinner or a special occasion.

Ingredients:

Ingredient Quantity
Uncooked sausage 1 1/2 pounds (680g)
Extra-virgin olive oil 1 tablespoon
Yukon Gold potatoes 4 pounds (1.8kg)
Kosher salt 1 tablespoon (or to taste)
Freshly cracked black pepper 2 teaspoons
Freshly grated nutmeg 3/4 teaspoon
Heavy cream 3 1/2 cups (840ml)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cook sausage: In a large skillet, cook the sausage over medium-high heat with 1 tablespoon of olive oil until browned.
  3. Prepare potatoes: Peel and slice the potatoes about 1/8 inch thick. Place them in a large bowl and season with salt, pepper, and nutmeg.
  4. Layer ingredients: In a 9.5×11-inch baking dish, layer the potatoes and sausage, pressing down to create a level surface. Pour the heavy cream over the potatoes until they are almost covered.
  5. Bake: Cover the dish with foil and bake for 1 hour. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 30-45 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden brown.
  6. Serve: Let the dish cool slightly before serving.
