This comforting casserole is a hearty and flavorful meal that’s perfect for a family dinner or a potluck. The combination of ground beef, potatoes, cheese, and creamy soup creates a satisfying and delicious dish.

Ingredients:

Ingredient Quantity
Ground beef (crumbled) 1 pound
Yellow onion (diced) 1 onion
Potatoes (peeled and sliced) 3-4 pounds
Shredded cheddar cheese 8 ounces or more
Cheddar cheese soup mix 1 can
Evaporated milk (or whole milk) 12 ounces
Milk ½ cup
Salt 1 teaspoon
Pepper ½ teaspoon

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare baking dish: Spray a 9×13 inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
  3. Cook beef and onion: In a large skillet, cook ground beef and diced onion until the meat is done.
  4. Layer ingredients:
    • Add a layer of potatoes to the bottom of the baking dish.
    • Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
    • Top with a layer of meat mixture.
    • Sprinkle with a layer of shredded cheese.
    • Repeat layers twice more, ending with a layer of cheese.
  5. Make soup mixture: In a bowl, combine cheddar cheese soup mix, evaporated milk, milk, and additional salt and pepper if desired.
  6. Pour soup mixture: Pour the soup mixture over the layered ingredients.
  7. Bake: Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake for 1 hour. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes to get a golden top.
  8. Serve: Serve hot and enjoy!

Note: For thicker potatoes, you may need to bake for a longer time.
