Tennessee Onions are a classic Southern side dish that’s incredibly flavorful and easy to make. The sweet onions are baked in a creamy cheese sauce and topped with a buttery cracker crust, creating a delicious and satisfying dish.

Ingredients:

Ingredient Quantity
Sweet onions (sliced) 2-3 large
Mayonnaise 1 cup
Sour cream 1/2 cup
Shredded cheddar cheese 1 1/2 cups
Shredded mozzarella cheese 1/2 cup
Garlic powder 1/2 teaspoon
Onion powder 1/2 teaspoon
Black pepper 1/4 teaspoon
Crushed Ritz crackers 1/2 cup
Melted unsalted butter 2 tablespoons
Chopped parsley (optional) For garnish

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Prepare onions: Peel and slice onions into 1/4-inch thick rings. Arrange in prepared baking dish.
  3. Make cheese sauce: Combine mayonnaise, sour cream, cheddar cheese, mozzarella cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper in a medium bowl. Stir until well combined.
  4. Assemble dish: Pour cheese mixture over onion rings in baking dish.
  5. Add topping: Mix crushed Ritz crackers with melted butter. Sprinkle over onion and cheese mixture.
  6. Bake: Bake in preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until onions are tender and cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  7. Garnish and serve: If desired, garnish with chopped parsley. Serve hot.
