For the Patty Melts
Ground beef 1 lb
Rye bread 6 slices
Onion powder 1/2 tsp
Garlic powder 1/2 tsp
Salt and pepper To taste
Cheddar cheese 6 slices
Provolone cheese 6 slices
Unsalted butter (softened) 6 Tbsp
For the Secret Sauce
Mayonnaise 1/4 cup
Chopped bacon pieces 2 Tbsp
Ketchup 3 Tbsp
Sugar 1 tsp
Relish 1 tsp

Instructions:

  1. Form patties: Shape the ground beef into 3 flattened patties that are roughly the same size as your bread slices. Season both sides with onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  2. Cook patties: Cook the patties over medium-high heat on the stove until cooked through. Remove from the pan.
  3. Make the secret sauce: In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, chopped bacon pieces, ketchup, sugar, and relish. Mix well.
  4. Prepare the skillet: Wipe the skillet used to cook the patties clean and reduce the heat to medium.
  5. Butter bread: Butter one side of each piece of rye bread.
  6. Assemble the patty melts: Place 3 slices of buttered bread, buttered side down, in the skillet. Top each with 2 slices of provolone cheese, a meat patty, and 2 slices of cheddar cheese.
  7. Add sauce: Spread a little bit of the secret sauce on the non-buttered side of the remaining 3 slices of bread. Place these sauce-side down on top of the patty melts in the skillet.
  8. Cook until melted and toasted: Flip the patty melts once the provolone cheese has melted and one side of the bread is well-toasted. Toast the other side of the bread until well-done.
  9. Serve: Serve the Patty Melts hot and enjoy!
