4-Ingredient Amish White Bread

Ingredient Quantity
Active dry yeast 1 1/2 tablespoons (2 packets)
Warm water (110°F-120°F) 2 1/2 cups
Granulated sugar 2/3 cup
Unsalted butter 8 tablespoons (1/2 cup)
Kosher salt 1 tablespoon
All-purpose flour 6-7 cups

Instructions:

  1. Activate Yeast: In a large bowl, combine warm water and sugar. Sprinkle yeast over the top and let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Melt Butter: Melt 6 tablespoons of butter and set aside to cool slightly.
  3. Mix Dough: Add melted butter and salt to the yeast mixture. Gradually add flour, one cup at a time, until dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  8. Bake: Bake loaves for 30-35 minutes until golden brown and hollow-sounding.
  9. Finish with Butter: Brush melted remaining butter over hot loaves.
  10. Cool: Let cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
