Made this dozens of times and my family keeps begging for more!

Hot dog chili sauce adds a burst of flavor and a touch of heat to your favorite hot dogs. Ingredients:

Ingredients Quantity
Ground beef 1 pound
Onion, finely chopped 1 medium
Garlic, minced 2 cloves
Tomato sauce 1 can (15 ounces)
Water 1/4 cup
Chili powder 1 tablespoon
Cumin 1 teaspoon
Paprika 1/2 teaspoon
Cayenne pepper (optional) 1/4 teaspoon
Salt 1/2 teaspoon
Black pepper, freshly ground 1/2 teaspoon
Worcestershire sauce 1 teaspoon
Brown sugar 1 teaspoon
Yellow mustard 1 tablespoon

Instructions:

  1. Brown the Ground Beef: In a large skillet or saucepan, cook the ground beef over medium-high heat until it is browned and no longer pink. Use a wooden spoon or spatula to break up the meat into small crumbles as it cooks. Once browned, drain any excess fat from the skillet.
  2. Add Onions and Garlic: Add the finely chopped onion to the skillet with the ground beef. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the onion becomes soft and translucent, about 5-7 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute, stirring frequently to prevent burning.
  3. Incorporate Tomato Sauce and Spices: Pour the tomato sauce and water into the skillet, stirring to combine. Add the chili powder, cumin, paprika, cayenne pepper (if using), salt, and freshly ground black pepper. Stir well to ensure the spices are evenly distributed throughout the mixture.
  4. Add Remaining Ingredients: Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, and yellow mustard. Mix thoroughly to combine all the flavors.
  5. Simmer the Sauce: Reduce the heat to low and let the chili sauce simmer, uncovered, for about 20-30 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking and to allow the flavors to meld together. The sauce should thicken slightly as it cooks.
  6. Taste and Adjust: Taste the chili sauce and adjust the seasoning as needed, adding more salt, pepper, or spices to suit your taste preferences.
  7. Serve: Remove the chili sauce from heat and let it cool slightly before serving. Spoon the hot dog chili sauce generously over grilled or steamed hot dogs, and top with your favorite condiments and cheese.
